Reclined Supported Back Bend

Benefits:

  • Stretches and opens the chest

  • Improves flexibility of the spine

  • Relieves a stiff back

  • Relaxing, relieves stress and tension

Steps:

  • Get a bolster or roll a blanket into a tube shape

  • Place the blanket across the short side of your mat (just past the mid point of the mat)

  • Sit about a foot in front of the blanket with your legs extended in front of you

  • Using your hands as support, lower onto your back, placing the rolled blanket under your back, just below your shoulder blades

  • Roll your shoulders back and slightly tuck your tailbone

  • Allow the rolled blanket to lift and open your chest

  • Breathe slowly and deeply into your belly and up through your chest

  • Stay here for 6-10 breaths

  • Roll onto your side, press the blanket out of your way and come up to sitting or roll back onto your back
